Because he thought it was a better opportunity, Chef Bradford Williams applied and got the Culinary Arts teacher position here at beginning of the school year.
"What I like best about teaching here is that when you're given an opportunity to do your job," Williams said, "you're not restricted to [just] do your job."
Williams has been a chef for 20 years. He worked at Breihaupt Technical Center for 12 years.
The requirements for being a teacher for Culinary here is certification, training and 12 years of experience as a chef.
Principal Louis Steigerwald likes Williams' experience level and recommendations above all else.
"When we interviewed him," Steigerwald said, "what came through is how much he cared about the kids."
Steigerwald interviewed Williams twice and decided that he wanted him to work here.
Williams said he takes his job seriously and that he enjoys teaching the students.
Junior Jasmine Hobson believes that one reason that he was chosen is that he's funny.
"He likes that there's always a good atmosphere," Hobson said, "that his students get along, and they help each other out."
Planning to finish his masters degree, Williams said that he also plans to continue to be healthy.
"Being a chef is a stressful job," he said, "the most stressful job in the industry. You can't bring your work home. Your home is your peace and serenity. You don't want that type of stress in your life."
