About
"The Crucible"
American
playwright Arthur Miller, wrote "The Crucible",
a play that deals with the 1692 Salem witchcraft trials,
in 1953.
Miller
drew many parallels between "The Crucible"
witch hunts and the time in American history often
remembered as the "McCarthy Era", a time
when Americans were accusing each other of Pro-Communist
beliefs. Many of Miller’s friends were being
attacked as communists. In 1956, Miller himself was
brought before the House Un-American Activities Committee
where he was found guilty of beliefs in communism.
The verdict was reversed in 1957 in an appeals court. |
